Focus of the Month
The focus of this month is on First Nations.
We will discuss how First Nations were living in what we now call Canada, for many years before new settlers came. We will learn how some First Nations lived, how they used the land to meet their needs, what their family life and dynamic was like, their tools, homes and clothing. How their lives changed when new settlers arrived.
The children will compare their lives with the daily life of First Nations in the past and explore and recreate tools and jewelry made with traditional First Nations materials.
They will also reproduce a longhouse or wigwam to analyze the benefits of each structure, as well as study the drawings of family life from Daphne Odjig.

Will we resume technology-focused learning in spring.

Focus of the Month:
Rules and procedures in the classroom and school.
How to welcome someone in the classroom, How to introduce yourself, how to offer something, and how to ask for things.
Art & Music
Art Focus of the Month:
The children will explore the traditional and contemporary indigenous art in many forms, from moose hair embroidery, painted caribou hide coats, and deer hide moccasins, to porcupine quill work or birch bark, twined hemp, and bead work.
Music Focus of the Month:
We’ll be dusting off our bells to get ready for the Winter Fair. Students are also having fun reading rhythm notation and playing it, too!
Physical Education
Focus of the Month: Dance and Rhythm
Incorporating dance and rhythm introduces students to the joy of movement and self-expression. Through simple dance routines and rhythmic activities, children develop coordination, balance, and an appreciation for the arts. Dancing encourages creativity and teamwork, while rhythmic exercises enhance listening skills and timing. It's a delightful way to promote physical fitness while fostering a sense of rhythm and grace in students, and it instills a lifelong appreciation for the cultural and artistic aspects of movement.
Week 1-2: Introduction to dance and rhythm activities.

French & Spanish

Winter clothes in both languages.
Introduce/review family members.
Continue to review the vocabulary from last year's workbook (French: AIM and Spanish: Colega).
Continue with numbers 0 to 15 (grade 1/2).Review the numbers 0 to 30 (grade 3/4).
Review the numbers 0 to 50 (grade 6).
Continue with the classroom objects in both languages.
Continue with the days of the week and months of year.
Introduce/review the colors.
